It wasn't unusual for Ten to arrive in 21st Century London on Earth. He had simply gotten the time slightly wrong. Although he had intended to pick Rose up after having dropped her off a few days before, the Doctor never refused an opportunity to walk around London.
Because trouble often followed the Doctor wherever he ended up, it was always worth it to just walk around and take a look at things, just to make sure that everything seemed to be okay. Besides, an adventure was an adventure, even if the destination hadn't been his intention.
With that said, he'd parked the TARDIS in a park, and headed out. He wasn't entirely even sure that he was in London, either.
"Well, it is the Earth...and in the 21st century," the Doctor commented to himself. "Oh...and I'm in a park...I like parks." And he did. They afforded him the opportunity to watch people.
The sun was shining, and it seemed to be a comfortably warm day. As such, the Doctor found a bench and sat down. This would give him time to think -- to think about Rose and his travels with her so far -- and give him time to watch.
As people walked by, he smiled at them, said hello, and let them move on. So far, no one had taken the time to talk with him, as most people seemed too busy -- or they found it off putting that a total stranger would greet them.
Shrugging it off, the Doctor continued to watch several children playing on a set of swings.

There were somethings in life Amelia Pond was certain of and one of them was that the Doctor was so going to be dead when he came back. She awoke to find him gone. Complete vanished. The TARDIS parked who knows where and the Doctor gone, leaving nothing but a note which read: "Be back later. Don't wander off."
Be back later? She was outrage. It was like Amy was still that little girl from fourteen years ago. He was treating her like a child! Don't wander off? What was she a dog now? Please, even the Doctor knew she never did what she was told. What was he going to do when he found out she left? Ground her and send her too her room? Amy would like to see him try.
Outside the TARDIS, Amy found out it was Earth, thankfully and somewhere in England judging upon the accents she heard. Clothes showed it was pretty modern England, 21st century, unless the future was awful and went back on trends. So she was stuck in Middle-of-Nowhere, England in a date she didn't know of. Oh, the was just great. If she wasn't already going to kill the Doctor, she would kill him again. Not only were they on Earth of all places, when they had all of space and time to travel, but no, the Doctor didn't even bother to take Amy with him to where ever he decided to go so early in the morning.
She was too busy muttering to herself, looking around for the Doctor, she almost completely ignored someone who said hello to her. "Sorry, lost in thoughts," she said quickly, looking at the man. He was tall, rather good looking, in a suit and trench coat. "Um, hi." Amy said a little too fast again. It probably would have been wise to just wake away like most people did when a causal greeting was sent out, but instead Amy had to the blurt the first thing that came to her mind. "I am looking for a friend of mine. Tall. Square-ish chin. A bow tie. She scrunched up her nose at that part. The Doctor may be good at saving people, but when it came to dressing himself, he was terrible. "Have you by any chance seen him? Kinda hard to miss with the bow tie and all." And than remembering her manners, Amy added. "I'm Amy by the way. Amy Pond."

Ten grinned as one of the humans passed by him and began engaging him in conversation that went beyond a mere greeting.
"Happens to me all the time," he told her. "Well, I mean, getting lost in my thoughts, although I'm not really lost in them. I just like to think."
Ten leaned forward slightly as the female before him asked him if he'd seen a man wearing a bow tie. Considering the question a moment, the Doctor frowned. "Well, I don't think....I don't think I have....although I've seen a lot of people. I don't remember a bow tie, though."
At the female's look of distaste when she asked about the bow tie, Ten couldn't help but smile. He didn't particularly like bow ties himself, but in his previous regenerations, he'd been caught wearing things that were not exactly fashionable. He really had no reason to criticize a human simply because he wanted to dress a certain way.
"Again, I really can't say that I've seen your friend. I'm sorry. However, I may be able to help you find him, if you want. Oh, and I really don't like bow ties either..."
As Amy introduced herself, the Doctor reached out his own hand in an attempt to shake hers. "Oh, and I'm the Doctor...just the Doctor. It's nice to meet you, Amy Pond." He grinned at her.

There was something about the guy that felt comfortable to Amy. He just gave off a sort of energy that made her feel safe, which was strange, because Amy didn't have that feeling with anyone besides the Doctor and Rory, though she was more concerned about Rory's saftey rather than hers when she was with him.
She laughed. "You sound like him-- my friend I mean. He likes to think too. Actually he likes to think aloud. Actually he isn't the most pleasent when he's thinking aloud." Amy laughed despite herself, remembering all the times they were in danger and he would tell her to shut up. "It's... um... complicated."
Everything was going fine. She met a lovely person, one willing to help her find the Doctor so she could yell at him. Amy was thinking this would be a pretty good day, despite her feelings early on. Yes, everything was going perfectly, and than he introduced himself.
The Doctor.
Amy jumped backwards, eyes wide in shock and disbelif, lips parted, willing sound to come out.
The Doctor.
That was not a common name. Nobody went by the Doctor, except the Doctor and he was not her imagnary friend. So many things went through her head at the moment, as she just stared, but she wasn't sidetracked to long, before she found her voice, well partly anyways.
"Y-you can't be the Doctor!" Amy almost shouted. She probably looked mental to others, but at the moment she didn't care what others thought. "Is this some kind of trick?! The Doctor doesn't look anything like you." She kinda choked on her own words, her voice soften, sounding meek and helpless, like she was that seven year old again, waiting for her imaginary friend to return. "I know him," she whispered, unable to raise her voice or hide her emotions of confusion or fright. "You're not him."

Ten listened to Amy as she spoke of a friend. "Well, thinking out loud is a good thing, because then others hear your thoughts...and it...it just helps to think more clearly when they are said out loud."
However, after he'd introduced himself to Amy, everything seemed to change. She no longer seemed friendly; instead she seemed almost fearful. Her outburst and reaction made it very clear to the Tenth Doctor that this Amy knew him -- but another regeneration of him.
The Doctor had met a lot of people throughout his lives, and although he was a Time Lord, and his memory was far superior to that of a human's memory, he had also suffered some memory damage and loss over the years. He did, in fact, forget people that he'd met. Sometimes it was just a small meeting, and sometimes it was someone that he had spent quite a bit of time with.
Racking his brain for a memory of this female, he let out a sigh. He just couldn't remember that face. And it wasn't as though she had met him later on in his time line, at least not in this regeneration, because she didn't recognize him. Whatever the circumstances were that he had met her in, it was obvious that Amy didn't know about regeneration. Not that that really surprised him. Only his companions and a few others knew about that.
"I....I'm sorry...but I don't seem to remember you....it...it must have been another regeneration...which would explain why you don't recognize me....but I am the Doctor."
Did she know that he had two hearts? There was only one way to find out. He reached into his pocket and pulled out the stethoscope. Holding it out to her, he nodded to it. "You can listen to my hearts....or wait....you might have met a regeneration of mine before...before the Time War....in that case....well, at least you can confirm my species."
He could tell that his revelation was troubling her, but if he cold only assure her that he was the Doctor, perhaps that would make things better.

The Doctor had told Amy about his regeneration only once and not in so many words. He ad told her a time might come when he would do something incredibly reckless, but instead of dying he would cheat death and change his face. At the time, this didn't make much sense to Amelia Pond, but the Doctor's face told her she shouldn't push the matter. So she didn't, but now Amy was finally understanding what the Doctor was saying. He would become someone new and the man standing in front of her could actually be the Doctor-- not that she was going to believe the first bloke to claim to be her imaginary friend, but at least she was able to breathe again.
She stepped forward when he held out the stethoscope. Despite everything that could go wrong, Amy wasn't afraid. Amy wanted to know if it was all true. She stared oddly at the stethoscope, knowing what to do with it, but wondering why would this "Doctor" carry one. Seemed as though he was taking his name far too serious.
Amy was very close to the guy now and tried to stop her heart from beating so loud. Gently, she listened to the right side of his chest and heard a heart beat. Kay, so far normal. Now Amy was hesitant. She slowly slide the stethoscope over to the left. There was the sound of another heart beat. She stepped back, but not very far. Amy wanted to show she wasn't scared.
"You're a Time Lord," she said softly, staring at him. "My Doctor--" Amy almost chocked on her words. "My Doctor said he was the last of his kind... That there was other Time Lords but..." She struggled, trying to remember the words he had said to her when he took her on her first trip in the TARDIS. "It's only him now, because it was a bad day an-and a lot of bad stuff happened..." Amy was staring at him the entire time, searching his face for a sign of familiarity. She found some in his eyes. They were ancient eyes, yet younger than the Doctor's, full of wisdom and sorrow.
There was no doubt in her mind that this was the Doctor or a regeneration of the Doctor at least. And a past one as well, since he didn't remember her. Of course, her Doctor would remember her, the seven year old he ate fish custard with. Amy wanted nothing more but to hug the other Doctor, since she couldn't hug her Doctor at the moment, but instead she found herself asking: "I want to see the screw driver." Amy mentally whacked herself. She knew it was him, yet she still wanted the proof that it was him.
