I NEED ANOTHER STORY. SOMETHING TO GET OFF MY CHEST.I'M GONNA GIVE ALL MY SECRETS AWAY.TELL ME WHAT YOU WANT TO HEAR. SOMETHING THAT WAS LIKE THOSE YEARS.------------------------------------------------------------------
Ianto rolled his eyes at John’s comment about the cinema. Of course the Captain would feel that way about Earth’s technology. Ianto was well aware that human beings were far behind in technology when compared to other planets and other times in the future. There were gloves that could raise the dead (albeit, only for a short period of time) and pendants that could allow someone to read others’ thoughts. But, every now and then, when people from the past fell through the rift, it brought back the fact to Ianto that humans weren’t doing too bad right now, after all. Ianto and his fellow beings had what they needed to have and were continually working on finding ways to improve modern technology.
But Ianto was currently in no mood to give John the ‘we’re not as pathetic and hopeless as you think we are’ speech. No matter what he said, Ianto didn’t think he would ever be able to get that point through to the other man. ”No, we can’t interact with it but people don’t go to the cinema to talk with the characters on the screen—to share their problems. They go there to forget about their own problems for a few hours—to remind themselves that things could always be worse.” The funny thing was that Ianto was one of those few people who knew just how worse things could be.
John’s being utterly disinterested in the past of the planet earned him another eye roll from Ianto. He certainly hadn’t expected John to start jumping up and down with joy at the prospect of learning about humans but he also hadn’t expected him to be so put off by it. Thank God for Jack actually giving a damn about human beings, even if there probably were other times and places Jack would rather be. Okay…Ianto needed to stop doing that: thinking about Jack. Jack was, in some twisted way of logic, the very reason Ianto found himself driving around London with John in his car.
It was too bad the one thing that seemed to interest John was the one thing they couldn’t do. ”Rugy…Cricket…Football…You name it, this city has it. I’m afraid, though, that if you’re looking more for your kind of entertainment, you’re in the wrong country and time. You should go back to the Roman Empire around 200 AD.” Ianto was sure a gladiator fight would perk John’s interest in the human race.
Ianto could feel his cheeks flush slightly at John’s surprise (even if Ianto suspected it was fake) at his statement. He cleared his throat and regained his composure before speaking. ”I’m…I’m not thinking about it like that. Just wanted to make sure we’re on the same page here.” Bloody hell. Ianto needed to learn how to keep his mouth shut. It would have been better not to have brought up the ‘d’ word to John. ”You still haven’t told me what you want to do,” he commented, trying to quickly change the subject.

Eye rolling. Eye Candy could certainly roll his baby blues nicely. John would have found it pretty, and he did, but he was finding it more entertaining. It was more proof, in his mind, that this little human wasn't hating this little gathering as much as he was pretending to. Well, if John was hating something, he ended it. Didn't act all sarcastic and eye roll-y.
"That sounds rather lame," he commented, shaking his head. Unable to interact? "So...it's just a picture? On a screen? Ooh, like Star Wars?" He knew about Star Wars. It had been one of the only films they'd had when he and Jack had been stuck in that Time Loop. He could quite probably recite all of them from heart, even now. And people wondered why he was slightly insane.
"Oh..." he said, pouting, "Is that where you want to go then? To forget about me being a problem? That's rather rude." And probably wouldn't work. Pictures wiping problems? Huh. Humans had odd views on the world, in his opinion.
And...another eye roll. Mentally, John made a note of that, and then a note of how many other ones there had been, before officially starting the new game he had just that second come up with. A game of 'Let's see how many eye rolls I can make Eye Candy roll'. Of course, he would prefer drinking or fighting or shagging to that, but beggers can't be choosers, and so far, all he was hearing about this planet was boring. Everyone was boring. Even the exciting looking biker guys didn't have any respect for fun. Him stealing that bike had been fun, but noo...He pouted, again. It was all s unfair.
"Uh...whatey, whatit, and...what?" Name it, this city has it...Well, he hadn't heard of any of them, had he, so that didn't actually mean much. Oh, but then he remembered a faint memory of something, which sent him bouncing in his seat. "Oh, rugby! I've seen that. That's the giant orgy amongst all the big hot muscled guys with people watching, isn't it? Let's do that!" He grinned, and then tilted his head to the side.
"Ain't that interesting, to be honest. Ok, big swords and everything, and the fights in the arenas were amazingly fun. People were pretty as well, even if the place stank." They'd all been wearing robe like clothes as well, which provided very easy access. John had been to Earth history...sort of. In a training program with the Time Agency, which could have been a simulation, and also might not have been. "The Baths were nice though. Might take you at somepoint." Okay, so that bit was a lie. He'd never been into the baths on Earth, but there was a planet not far from where he'd been trained which had lots of baths from hundreds of different civilisations and eras. He'd been there.
He forced himself not to smirk at the other man, and simply blinked, his head still tilted to the side, adopting a thoughtful look. "Y'know...I haven't actually been on a date for ages. Never have time for them, truth be told. What do dates on Earth consist of? Humour me." Oh, what did he want to do? Get into Eye Candy's pants. But that was probably the wrong answer, so he shrugged, turning to look out of the windows at the city and pretending to be...intereted. "Keep driving, I'll see something."

I NEED ANOTHER STORY. SOMETHING TO GET OFF MY CHEST.I'M GONNA GIVE ALL MY SECRETS AWAY.TELL ME WHAT YOU WANT TO HEAR. SOMETHING THAT WAS LIKE THOSE YEARS.------------------------------------------------------------------
Was it wrong of Ianto to think that it was rather cute and endearing that John did seem rather like a little kid when he mentioned Star Wars? After all, John had the capability of traveling wherever and whenever he wanted to, and, yet, here he was getting all excited mentioning a movie—a movie that was all about other worlds. Ianto was mightily glad that he didn’t own a copy of that movie anywhere or else he might have been tempted to offer that as their activity for tonight, which would mean being alone in a room somewhere with John…definitely not a good idea. ”Just like Star Wars,” he agreed, ”Although, the special effects these days are much more sophisticated than anything you saw in that one.”
Before it was Ianto reading too much into John’s words, and now it was John returning the favor. ”You are a problem,” he heartily concurred, ”But I’m afraid it would take more than a movie to make me forget about you.” Oh God, that sounded so wrong. It had sounded great in his head but out of it it sounded like some pathetic pick up line or come on. ”And, rude or not, it’s the truth,” Ianto added, wanting to say anything after that slip up of his.
John really didn’t know anything about this planet. Ianto would have been more than willing to give a short explanation of each of those sports, even if sometimes he didn’t see the point of some of them, but before he could John was describing rugby in explicit detail. He gave John a ‘you’ve got to be kidding me’ look. ”I suppose that’s one way you could…look at it.” Ianto had definitely never looked at it that way but to each his own. Ianto was sure that Jack would have had a similar description of the sport.
Ianto should have realized that John would have already seen all of that. How lucky was John to get to see those things? If Ianto could do the same, the first place he would go….Wait…What had John just said? He’d take him there?! Jack never offered to invite him places like that. Ianto, with all of his willpower, managed to keep his composure relatively straight and keep his common sense. ”You won’t be taking me anywhere…ever.” The thought of being able to travel places no human of his time had gone was enticing. The deal breaker was it being John he would have to do the traveling with.
The ‘d’ word wasn’t going to be disappearing so easily it looked like. Ianto shrugged his shoulders. ”It all depends on the couple. Jack asked me out to dinner and a movie.” Cheap shot there—trying to subtly hint that he and Jack were a couple, despite the odd nature of their relationship. ”Other couples may prefer to do more exotic things like bungee jumping or parachuting. Sometimes staying at home and cuddling by a fire may be the perfect date for someone.” ‘Keep driving.’ Ianto could do that.

John flashed another grin in Ianto's direction. And yet, no eye roll. Damn. He'd have to try harder again. "Don't brag about special effects until you're able to interact with the characters, love." He said with a grin, leaning back in his seat again, suddenly lifting his legs up to prop his boots on the dashboard, stretching his arms out so they were tucked behind his bed. There. Relaxed.
"This car's a sweet ride, by the way. Gotta say, am empted to take it myself." That was a compliment. John wasn't sure how to make a compliment without sounding like he wanted to shag something, and as open minded as he was...no, shagging a car was beyond him. But it was nice.
He quirked the scarred eyebrow, flicking his eyes over towards the over man, lips curving into a grin. And made sure to flick his eyes downwards to look at Eye Candy's own mouth as the other man spoke, just because...he could. "I can be a very nice problem if you give me a chance," he said, adding a hopeful tone to his voice. "Truth or not, it's a shame that you only have nasty images of me in your mind, isn't it?" He wasn't going to forget that. Eye Candy kept slipping up, apparantly, and it was almost laughable. Just more hints that he was actually considering John's offers (repeated offers).
He nodded, rather pleased with himself. Yes, he had seen rugby. A load of very hot, very...nice...men, jumping onto one another then wrestling in the middle of a crowd of cheering people, groping and panting and heavy breathing. John had a faint idea that there was a ball involved as well, but he wasn't that sure. "I'm right, aren't I? Fancy a game?" he added cheekily, the grin back on his lips, lighting up his face.
And then it was gone, his expression falling in a masterful way. He congratulated himself on it - having watched in the mirror, and then ducked his head, running the words carefully over in his head before saying them. "Oh." he said glumly, "Did offer to Jack as well, y'know. So...'s not like you're special, or anything. Offer to lots of people, me. Famous for it." He said it quickly, purposefully quickly, and wondered what Eye Candy's reaction would be. The hint that the human was special. Well...Jack must see something in him...
Oh, that was rather interesting. And John wasn't pretending about the interested look that appeared on his face. Jack on a date? "Oh, that's so cute! Seriously, ultra sweet!" The image of Jack, all dressed up, then Eye Candy, all dressed up...Alright, so John was a little jealous. Jack had never taken him out for a dinner and a movie. But then he remembered that they hadn't really been a dating couple. He paused. "That was a cheap shot at me, wasn't it? Trying to get me jealous. Naughty." No, he and Jack had been more...complicated. "Cuddling in front of a fire? How...domestic. Sounds rather intriguing though, don't mind giving that a...Hey! What's that?!" He suddenly leant forward, peering out of the windscreen, and grinned. A wheel. It was a blood giant wheel by the river. With little pods and everything...He laughed at the very sight.

I NEED ANOTHER STORY. SOMETHING TO GET OFF MY CHEST.I'M GONNA GIVE ALL MY SECRETS AWAY.TELL ME WHAT YOU WANT TO HEAR. SOMETHING THAT WAS LIKE THOSE YEARS.------------------------------------------------------------------
Ianto was more than happy to leave behind human’s perceived shortcomings. There were more important things to be thinking of than when, and if, humans would ever be able to interact with characters in movies…Like John wanting to take his car. ”And that is one temptation you better keep to yourself because I can’t afford a cab ride all the way back to Cardiff.” Ianto highly doubted, though, that John would care about that small detail. ”So, you keep your hands to yourself tonight and we won’t have any problems.”
Apparently Ianto’s words weren’t sinking in at all. ”You just never give up, do you?” Ianto let out an exasperated sigh. It was time to get everything out into the open so that John could stop his foolhardy attempts at getting into his pants. ”You may believe that Jack is doing something with Gwen, and it may very well be true, but just because Jack is doing it, it doesn’t mean that I’m going to do it too. Say whatever you want to say. It’s not going to happen.” There was one thing that Ianto was failing to mention right now: he didn’t quite believe his own words. If he were to take one lesson from his years at Torchwood it would be that anything is possible. ‘Never say never’ was a saying that readily applied in their world.
But Ianto was starting to believe that trying to get sex off of John’s mind was going to be a hopeless task. He regretted ever mentioning rugby. ”I don’t,” he simply stated. He wasn’t about to watch an “orgy” with John, not only because that would be a stupid thing to do but also because that would mean meeting up with John in the city again tomorrow.
Well, it was comforting knowing that Jack turned John down on his offer. It was just more confirmation that Jack seemed to be through with John. Ianto could deal with Jack screwing around with Gwen a lot more easily than if it had been John instead of her. ”And no one ever seems to want to take you up on that offer. That’s a shame.” A part of Ianto felt relatively bad for the man. So what? He knew what it was like to feel alone. He couldn’t imagine what it felt like to have no one in the universe want to hang out with you.
Ianto let a smile cross his face in conformation of that being a cheap shot. And he was thankful that John wasn’t able to finish his next sentence but not so thankful with what had caught John’s eye. John had the propensity of having a short temper that resulted in him throwing people from heights. ”That is a ferris wheel,” he answered, starting to head in that direction, despite the forewarning that had just passed through his head.

"Oh, I can pay for that, if that's what you're worried about. Lots of money on me, today. Ain't I a darling for offering?" He didn't really have any reason not to. He wasn't staying on this planet after all, and the money here was useless everywhere else. It was fun to nick it though, which was the only reason why he had it. "Keep my hands to myself?" He blinked innocently, looking at his hand as if only just seeing them, before reaching voer to lightly trail his fingers up Ianto's arm, his voice sweet. "Come now, you can't say that if you don't mean it. I could get upset."
He grinned again at those words. No, nope, he never did. No point really. Of course, there was not really trying, which was what he was doing now, but that was different. This was a game, after all. If he ever really, really wanted someone...well, he'd try. But this was just fun. Wasn't his fault...well, yes, it was, but flirting was what he did. "Would you rather I started talking about killing people? Or just doing it?" He didn't think Eye Candy would like that very much. "And really, that's silly. Humans...you need to open your minds a bit more. Of course, this being a low level planet it's not really suprising...but what's the point of staying with one person to show loyalty if they're not doing the same? And knowing Jack, he'd probably just want details afterwards."
He pouted, returning his hand back off of Ianto's arm, and folding his own arms in a sulky posture. "Well sucks to be you, Mr Stiff Suit. You really need to lighten up some more. Have fun. You live only a short amount of time, enjoy it. Stupid humans." How was he ever related to these morons? Just...how?
John's eyes narrowed slightly, but he didn't let himself be really annoyed. That had seemed sarcastic, to him, but he could manage. Couldn't kill Eye Candy after all. "Love, I'm anti-social. One night's enough for me, and yeah." He smirked. "That offer is accepted msot of the time." If it wasn't, he moved on. No point getting hung up over it. Although, that was when he was in a lot of people. With one person, like now, he just didn't bother stopping. They'd cave eventually, unless they were boring sods.
Being rejected by Jack though...yeah, that had hurt. But he'd been hurt before by Jack, for worse than that, and it wouldn't be for long. Jack had grown too attached to this planet. When the ones he loved died, and they would, because a hundred years was a stupid amount of time to live, especially in linear form, John would make the offer again. And, to be fair, he wasn't so hung up on it now. He was dedicating himself to finding the sods brother and trying to show him that he did matter and was something, after all. Done that, that was finished. And hadn't that gone well..
A Ferris wheel...well, he could see the wheel bit. But the ferris? "Ferris? What's a Ferris? And why's that it's wheel?" He regarded it thoughtfully. Big, and with lights and people, probably cute people, who would be more fun than Eye Candy. And, seeing as there were people... "Can you imagine the sight someone falling off that would make? If someone caught that in a picture it would be so pretty!"

I NEED ANOTHER STORY. SOMETHING TO GET OFF MY CHEST.I'M GONNA GIVE ALL MY SECRETS AWAY.TELL ME WHAT YOU WANT TO HEAR. SOMETHING THAT WAS LIKE THOSE YEARS.------------------------------------------------------------------
”Offering to pay my cab ride, if you still my car…Quite gentlemanly of you,” Ianto said, sarcasm filling his voice. John had such a strange set of morals. Ianto should have just kept his mouth shut. He was saying all of the wrong things to the Captain. He should have brushed John’s hand off of his arm. God knew that that was the only reasonable thing to do but, instead, Ianto found himself clenching down his teeth and tolerating John’s caress as best as he could. ”Right…Wouldn’t want to upset you. That might cause you to kill me and mess up the whole world,” he muttered, deciding it would be easier to forget the fact that John was right in Ianto not really meaning those words.
”I’m willing to sacrifice myself to keep the other humans of the city safe,” he answered. He supposed that John focusing on this little game of his was better than John focusing on those other things. It was a small sacrifice to make and really not one that was very unpleasant. Okay…Maybe it was an unpleasant sacrifice, as John casually stated in not so many words that Jack would be okay with Ianto shagging John tonight. Ianto let out a small, disbelieving chuckle at that, trying to cover up the fact that he thought that that might very well be true. ”Right…I’m sure Jack would be brimming with excitement if he ever found out that I shagged his former lover, whom he’s not a big fan of right now.”
Ianto breathed out a mental sigh of relief as John finally removed his hand. He didn’t mind John’s insults one bit. He was hoping that he could somehow piss off the Captain just enough to stop him trying to get into his pants but not enough to make John want to kill him. Of course, Ianto knew he was going to have to be delicate about it all because John had already admitted to him that he had poor impulse control.
It was hard to separate out the lies from the truth when it came to John. Was one night really enough for him or was he just some poor lonely sod who liked to pretend that he was okay with people only sticking around him for a short period of time? Ianto wasn’t about to try and pry into John’s psyche and find out.
Well, now who was the stupid one? ”A Ferris is nothing. It’s just what they call those things. It gives you a lovely view of the whole city.” Ianto had been on there a couple of times when he’d come to London to visit his sister, niece, and nephew. He was actually believing that it might not be all that bad to take John on it…until the man spoke his next words. ”Nobody’s going to be doing any falling from the Ferris wheel tonight…What happened to keeping a low profile so you don’t mess up this timeline?”

"Thank you," John said with a grin, inclining his head slightly. Well, it always paid to be polite, didn't it? Unless the person was irritating as hell, in which case it certainly didn't pay at all, and it was much easier just to kill them. His grin widened slightly as he vaguely heard Eye Candy's last words, before reaching over and ruffling his hair. "That's my boy. Learning, you are." Had he even said that? In words? Hey, Eye Candy was rather smart now, wasn't he?
"Doesn't sound like such a hardship," he said, quirking an eyebrow with a small smirk, wriggling in his seat again. Damn this, he'd been sitting still for too long. Of course, that was what you did in a car, he guessed, but still...John was John. Moving was something he did, sitting still? No, he couldn't do that. But then he settled again, and laughed. "Oh, he might be a bit possessive. But that just leads to better sex afterwards, really. And he probably would want details. Might even ask to join in next time."
Not a big fan of? That sent a pang through him, even though John knew it to be true. His reasons for the first visit were explained in the second visit though, sort of, so...well, he would just have let that slide. Jack wasn't so mad at him the second time, even after losing...him. John saved his life, risking his own, all in Eye Candy's future. Unless he changed it. Damn, there came that thought again.
"A view? I can do a better one than that, y'know. If I had my ship with me, but I sold that last week. Never mind. Do you like a good view?" Aww...but that bit was no fun. He pouted, lips pursing, "Oh, well, yes, but Jack's in Cardiff. Nothing I do here will affect him, or the future of Cardiff. Unless I put some bomb failsafe around the area, which is highly unlikely. Too boring. And of course not. They would be pushed, not just fall. Don't be silly."
