- - - - - - - - - - - Yes and she usually did, too. She didn't know what had gotten into her, why she hadn't thought to introduce herself. Maybe it was just being around a time lord and one, she was sure, wasn't the doctor. Maybe Sarah just thought he knew her. After all, he was a time lord and she had traveled with a time lord. stupid assumption. "Yes, you'll have to excuse my lack of manners."
In the restaurant, she'd been pretty quick to dismiss him being the doctor. She thought she would know him, like last time she had seen him she guessed it was him. This could be the doctor and she was about to open her mouth and say something when he giggled and went on. So he wasn't the doctor, but at some point he had been? Sarah Jane also wondered why he would try to make her think he was. "When you were still him? How could you have been the doctor once but not now? And why would you try to make me believe you were him?"
Humans might end up being the death of this planet one day. Sarah knew they were trying to help the planet and didn't realize they were harming it. She didn't know this time lord, but that wasn't going to stop her from saving Earth. Nothing could ever stop her from protecting this planet. It was what she was meant to do and if she wanted the continued survival of Earth, she had no choice. Besides she would never be able to go on with her day like nothing had happened. "I have to," she replied. "Okay, then, you know my name. What's yours?"

Ten really did love humans; he really did. Earth was, in fact, his favorite planet to visit. However, he hadn't intended to land on Earth this time. He never liked it when something went wrong with his TARDIS and forced him to go to a time and space location that he actually hadn't intended on being. This was enough to frustrate him.
Still, he was on Earth, and the TARDIS wouldn't respond to him. It was almost as though his ship had brought him there on purpose, knowing that the Doctor needed to be on Earth and in London at this particular point in time. Either that, or she had broken down again...or something else was interfering with his TARDIS. Either way, he was there.
Never one to pass up an opportunity to investigate his situation, the Doctor flung the doors open to his TARDIS. There he was - on Earth -- with no companion. It was at times like these that he tended to pick up a companion.
"Well, then.....let's see what we have here..." He looked out onto 21st century London. Everything appeared to be all right -- it looked how it should. However, something was definitely wrong, and he intended to figure out what it was. With that in mind, he set off down the street.

WE'RE GOING TO MAKE THE STARS B U R N WE'RE GOING TO SET THE SKY ON F I R E The Valeyard stood up, looking down at the smaller woman. It seemed that the Doctor had forgot to inform his companions about him. Foolish of him, something like having an evil future self was something that you wanted you friends to know. Oh it probably was to painful to go back and see them. Pathetic. He shrugged and stepped back, a smirk spreading across his face. "I was the Doctor, but I'm not anymore. At first I was a could have been, but the Time Lords gave me an actual body and during the Time war some extra lives." Right after the Doctor had killed him. He really had a lot of self hate going on.
"As for your later question. I just wanted to know if it worked. Some companions actually fall for it, but in the end I can't keep the act up. As you just witnessed, I hated being the Doctor too much to keep it up for long." Really bad self hate issues. the Valeyard looked at the TARDIS, maybe he could have another go at it. but doubted it would do him much good. Then something hit him, maybe if she had brought him here. There was a possibility that she had dragged in another time, another incarnation too. Or even more than one.
Well he hoped if that was true it was the small one with the umbrella. They had at least matched each other in cunningness. Or even the big eared one, the darkness in that one was delicious. He turned to Sarah Jane Smith, just like he had imagined. Even if he wasn't the Doctor the idea that the Earth was in trouble would cause her to jump in and give him a hand. Humans and their heroes complexes, now he knew from where the Doctor ended up getting it. His first incarnation hadn't been that...well stupid. "You may call me Valayard." He stopped for a moment, maybe that would bring some attention. "Actually if anyone is around, just call me John Smith."
He turned around and began to walk down the street. Standing there they weren't going to gt anything done and people were beginning to stare. "Come along Smith." He was almost giggly with excitement, probably from whatever part of the Doctor that loved this type of thing reminded in him. Or because he secretly still enjoyed this sort of thing. Even if he would never openly admit it to anyone, not even himself. To him nothing from the Doctor reminded in his dark and rotten heart.
