In Pete’s world Owen had not been part of Torchwood. He had caught the news about them in London because of the Cybermen attack. He was a doctor and he was married to Katie Harper. They had been married over two years. No children yet. But they are working on it. Katie had been unable to conceive.
Doctor Owen had been working two shifts back to back at the University College Hospital in London. He could not turn away from the male corpse who was murdered by a freaky ‘alien’ bite. He classified it an alien because unclassified did not sound right. He had gone through his resources on the bite that killed a man. He had an image of a walking shark walking on four legs or humanoid.
Staring at the blood sample, he had no clue what it was. He had stolen the blood. He wanted to research it because he could not imagine what could have bitten the male and killed him. He drummed his pen against the pad of paper. He had no clue what it was.
The phone on his desk rang, he reached for it and answered it, “Doctor Owen---“ he had been cut off by with his wife. “Katie love. Yea, I am still at work. I will be home shortly. Kisses back,” he said making smooch sounds over the phone. He had done it privately because it felt foolish.
He took one last glace of the sample of the blood under the scope they had at the facility. Everything was all new and top equipment. It was an expensive hospital. It was a needed necessary for the community in London. They even had labs on cyber technology thanks by the crazy individual who had decided to bring Cyborgs. Cyborg was connected to Torchwood. Cyborg and Torchwood, Owen was weighing the chances that they had a tie in with aliens. Owen had gone past the normality of the bite on the dead corpse. Even the claw marks on the man had not matched any animal on earth. It was not even a human could do that damage too.
He placed the alien blood sample in his case, and the files he had collected on his research. He closed the case. He stopped at the door. He looked over his shoulder. He heard his wife in the back of his mind say Come home honey. The other side of him did not want to walk away.
“One more hour,” Owen said, placing the case down on the empty chair. He had gone to his computer, logged on and he started to search on Torchwood. He wanted to try to find who they are and what they do. He searched Cybermen and Torchwood and did not get much result. That had made no sense. He looked more. Found less. Did people forget? How come he remembered? He tried to go deeper and deeper. He was down on a chase but it led him to some site that seemed odd. He read the site over and over. He was looking for signs. He had no way to contact the web master.
The phone rang again, it was what five minutes. He glanced at the time. Two hours later, he wore a hurtful look answering the phone. “Yes, I am at work…Yes. Yes. Yes. I am on my way. Yes ma’am,” he said wishing he could stay. He knew he was getting there. He closed up his office and started to work his way to his car when he left.
Who knows his life could change as now with some Torchwood, a Time Lord, or people out of place and time or getter people from this universe the average person. But who knows? Who could tell.

YOU'RE THE CLOSEST TO HEAVEN THAT I'LL EVER BE AND I DON'T WANT TO GO HOME RIGHT NOW Torcwhood. It felt strange that she was working for them now, after all that had happened she was working for the people that had separated her from him. She was working for the organization that had brought the worse day of her life. It was true that it wasn’t the same Torchwood, there were files on the Doctor. But in the last years she couldn’t find that much on him, there was no Rose on this universe she had to remind herself. If this universe still had a Doctor, he probably didn’t even know she existed. She hoped that was the only thing, something in the back of her head reminded her that the Doctor could be dead here. She shivered at the thought, maybe Torchwood had just lost track of him.
Rose bit her lip, she had to focus. This was Torchwood work, there was no Doctor to watch her back. She needed her focus, there had been an attack and someone was dead. Rose was now driving to the hospital were the body had been taken. She looked at the folder once more, the victim had been a man. She looked back towards the road, it was already late, but that’s how Torchwood worked. You could get called at 12 in the afternoon or at 3 in the morning. Aliens didn’t wait, so you couldn’t neither. Now back to the case, the victim had been attacked, bitten by the alien or creature. They didn’t had much information on the alien itself, that ‘s why Rose had been asked to get the inform the Doctors had made.
Rose was probably the most qualified person to deal with aliens, she had visited many planets and encountered them. At first they had interviewed her, asked her thousands of questions. Describe aliens, planets. All her travels with the Doctor, Pete had tried to at least make it easier for her. Her loss had been painful, talking about the travels just made her think about him more. But it didn’t matter she didn’t want to forget about him, she didn’t want to forger about all the good times. It was sill hard to think about it, she still remembered the later meeting with the Doctor. She wiped the few tears that had formed, focus. She had to be strong now, people’s life could be in danger.
Finally she came to the Hospital, there were a few cars parked. But it was late, the patients and workers wouldn’t be putting much attention to her. She’ll talk to the person in charge, get some information and see the body. Torchwood wasn’t such a big secret in this universe, like it had been on hers. Most people knew about them, about the cyber men. But humans they liked to ignore, forget those things. Maybe now and then someone would mention the cyber men, but the conversation would take another turn and they would forget about them again. Torchwood was like that, people knew about them. Some would say something, but they would change the subject. Forget about Torchwood and the their work, it only mattered that they kept them safe.
They kept the big aliens away. Then sometimes like today, someone would get hurt. Torchwood would come up and clean up the mess, some would whisper. But then they forgot and the cycle began again. Rose’s car came to a stop, she sighted looking around before picking the black folder. Torchwood was written across it in larger red letters. She pulled the door open and walked out, there was a man not far away. But she wasn’t paying attention to him nor anyone else that walked in the parking lot, she was reading her file. Walking toward the hospital for another Torchwood job. Her life moved on, like people did.

The red letters on the black folder caught Owen’s attention as the blonde walked by him. Lady opportunity had walked by. He eyed her car. In the back of his mind, he could hear Katie ordering Owen to come home.
He had believed in consequences since he met Katie. Things happen for a reason. Doctor Owen did not believe in luck. This was one of them encounters. He imagined all things had a meaning and a purpose. He had a deep yearning sense that he was meant to be here. He titled his head to the left, scowled at the female’s car. He leaned to his left transferring his weight on his left foot. He rapidly studied the license plate. He memorized it. Torchwood sent one member? That was something particular odd.
He was going to hound the blond beauty down. He had hesitant that he will remain for her outside. He reckoned that the blonde could be the first to get at the hospital. He decided to something sneaky. He hurriedly got to his car. Owen’s care was not all too far because he has his own reservation parking spot. He lightly sited the case in the passenger side floor. He opened his glove compartment. He had a pocket knife. He tucked the knife in his blue jean back pocket. He ninja-ly moved aside to her car. He eyeballed around to be sure it was clear. He had bent down between the cars. Because he was familiarize of the surveillance cameras in the parking lot. He yanked the knife out, opened it, jabbed her driver side tyre. It hissed as the air ran out and the tyre gone flat. He hastily got up, pocketed the closed pocket knife and he strolled to his car like nothing had happened. He got in the driver side, sat behind the wheel and waited for her to come out.

YOU'RE THE CLOSEST TO HEAVEN THAT I'LL EVER BE AND I DON'T WANT TO GO HOME RIGHT NOW Rose entered the hospital, taking a quick look around. It was one of the most advanced hospitals she’d visited, but it wasn’t strange. This universe she’d learned was a lot more advanced that hers had been. It had been a bit weird at first, getting used to all the changes. But it was easier now, she still kept her old phone thought. It was the only think she had taken other than the clothes she had been wearing that day. All her positions were still in her room or in the TARDIS. If he’d kept them. Rose shook her head, she needed to stop thinking about that, at least until her job was done for the night.
She walked into the head of the hospital’s office, trying to give her best smile. She spoke quickly, writing small notes down and saving them on the black folder. After half an hour she walked into the room were the body had been kept. She started down at it, it was easy to tell that the markings weren’t caused by any human or animal from Earth. It was gruesome to look at, but she’d been working at Torchwood long enough not to be too bothered by it. She wrote a few more notes down, the body had to be taken in custody by Torchwood. One of their scientist needed to look at it better.
This wasn’t the first body they’d found, another had been found a few miles off Cardiff. She guessed more than one alien had to be involved, there was too much distance between the attacks. But the other one would be Torchwood Three’s problem, she only had to worry about Torchwood One. That was troublesome enough. She nodded at the head, picking up the reports made by the Doctors here. The information couldn’t fall into the wrong hands, they’ll copy them and send a report down to UNIT. That’s how it always worked, the staff here would for get about the body and move on.
Just like it was expected of her to move on, forget about the Doctor. That’s what he’d wanted, but how could she? She loved him. She had her mom, Pete and even Mickey. But she no longer had him. She smiled once more and walked back to her car, she’d leave the report in torchwood hand and go for a drink. She needed a drink. Walking to her car the first thing she noted was the flat tire, she cursed out loud. That was just lovely, this was a great night to be Rose Tyler. She could call Mickey or someone to pick her up, but it would take them a good hour to get there. Her other choice was a cab, but she doubted she had enough money to afford it back to Torchwood Headquarters. Rose looked around, hoping an idea would come to her.
That’s when she saw a car not far off, she smiled. She took out a smart ID, given to her by torchwood itself. It was about time it served of some use to her. “Hello, I kind of need a lift. Important government issues, my car it has a flat tire and I need to get there as quickly as possible.” She showed him the small ID, still smiling and hoping it would work. It had to work, something good needed to happen to her today. “I know this is a bit strange, but is very important for me to get there.”

Owen observed the bird coming out of the hospital. He saw her looking unhappy about the slash tire. “Opps,” Owen said alone in his car. “Sorry luv got to slash it.”
Now, he wasn’t expecting her to draw near his car. He was planning to approach her. It turned out to be better than he participated. One night ago, Katie had enlightened Owen that individuals have the control to curve the cosmos to their necessities. He had speculated had he the potential to bend the cosmos.
Rolling down his window, Owen beamed to the young lass, “Government?” he asked viewing at the smart card. He saw it was legitimate. It had no sign of Torchwood. He might ask the ‘government’ lady more proof identify card. “I credit that my day had befallen to the strange stages,” he retorted. He glance his passenger door, “Sure thing hun. I get you to the address.”
He pressed the release button for the passenger door to unlock, he inclined over the passenger seat, haul up the case and he gently placed the casing on the floor behind the passenger seat. Owen’s mobile phone rang. He pressed the button on his blue tooth. “Yes, love. I am aware I am late,” he eyed the blonde while he was his phone. “I am aiding someone with a flat tire.” Katie’s voice could be heard ‘You actually changing a tire?’ “Well, well not correctly. I am driving them to their nest,” he stated to his phone. “No, uhm, thing is in good health. Er They live on the far side of London.” The voice of Katie can be heard with mumbles. “Yea, uhm not here righto. Riiiight. I love you.” He hanged up his mobile phone. That was the formerly the first time Owen fibbed to his wife. That was rough for Owen and he dislike it.
“Righto, I am Owen Harper. And you are?” he questioned her. Owen turned the key to ignite his sports car. He changed gears as the sports car crawled in slow speed through the parking lot. “You’re with Torchwood?” he bluntly asked her. “I saw the folder when you entered. Why are you here?” he required and he wanted to be sure he won’t make known too Rose that he identify why she was here.
On the side interior Owen’s car there is a gold necklace dangling on the rear mirror. The miniature picture of Owen and Katie are kissing each other in a photo in the locket. The married couple appeared to be an item from the picture. Owen had not given Rose a sexy second look because he was too deep in love with Katie,

YOU'RE THE CLOSEST TO HEAVEN THAT I'LL EVER BE AND I DON'T WANT TO GO HOME RIGHT NOW Rose blinked a few times and smiled, she was actually surprised that it had worked. This wasn’t one of her luckiest day, that something good had happened was as rare as going back to the Doctor. “Wait, I have to get some papers.” Rose ran back to her car, picking a few other folders identical to the ones she already had with her. It wouldn’t be wise to leave such important documents lying around. She began to look around, her luck had taken a better turn but she didn’t want to tempt it. As she toyed around the car there was a click as something hit the floor. She bended down to pick it up, it was her old phone. She turned it around her hand, she’d been thinking about it.
Rose wondered for a moment what would have happened if the Doctor had a similar phone with him in the TARDIS, would she have been able to contact him through them? Rose smiled almost sadly, he traveled in a phone box but didn’t even carry a phone himself. It was strange that the Universe was still around when it depended in such a careless person. But the Doctor wasn’t careless, Rose knew better than that. But Rose still felt at times angry about that day, about been forced away from the man she loved. All thanks to the Daleks, all thanks to the cybermen. Rose hadn’t met any of those aliens here yet, but she knew if she ever did she would do her best to finally destroy them. She hated them, she truly hated them. She walked back to the car, circling it and sitting down on the passenger side.
She gave the phone one last look, before placing it in one of her coat pockets. It still worked on this Universe, but Rose had another phone that she used for her work. Mickey had a similar one, all Torchwood employees did. She imagined that hers would be more useful, but she also feared that it would end up broken during a fight or something. She didn’t want to risk loosing the only thing she still had from him. So she used her Torchwood phone, just like every other Torchwood employee. While Torchwood wasn’t a secret in this Universe, Rose took one of the blank pages from one of the folders and wrote the address down. She turned towards the man, pushing it forward. “Thank you, I’m sorry for taking your time. But is of extreme importance that I make it to Torchwood London as soon as possible.”
Rose took out the Torchwood earpiece, placing it on her ear. A female voice answered her call, it was a familiar one to Rose. “Tish, I should be getting there as soon as possible, I have some trouble with the car so you’ll have to send someone to pick it up.” Tish Jones said something, Rose simply nodded knowing that she couldn’t really see her. “I don’t know, one of the tires was flat when I got to it. But I have the report for Torchwood.” She lowered her voice then, with the cybermen the concept of alien life wasn’t well alien. But Rose still didn’t want to scream it out loud. “Is definitely alien, no doubt about it.” Rose finally ended the call, turning to the driver.
“So can we get there? Or do you need more detailed directions.” She waited for an answer, Tish’s voice still rang in her ear. They needed to find this alien as soon as possible and before they attacked someone else. She thought about her mom, Pete and the child. They could be victims, even her and this man could get attacked by the alien. “My name is Rose by the way, Rose Tyler. You are?”

Wait, I have to get some papers.” Rose ran back to her car. Owen watched the blonde dash out of his car and back to her car. He was observing her. He was not perverting her as the original Owen in Rose’s world. Owen had wondered what the single white female was getting in her car. Was he going to be in danger with Torchwood?
Rose turned towards the man, pushing it forward. “Thank you, I’m sorry for taking your time. But is of extreme importance that I make it to Torchwood London as soon as possible.” Owen had tried to peak to see what was in the folder. What was he trying to see? Who knows but it was classified. It was Torchwood.
“Aye,” he said studying the address. He knew exactly where that was. He had gone by that place at least a million times. How could he miss the complex?
Is definitely alien, no doubt about it.” Rose finally ended the call, turning to the driver.
“Like a walking shark?” he asked. He had to say it. “Look, I can get you there. But those marks on the victim are marks not from any animal on Earth. It is not a ‘Cyberman’. What is exactly is it?”
Turning the wheel, Owen drove down a street. “We had three victims. Each seemed to be near the same place. The police seem to not care. I am guessing its brush under the rug and let’s pretend we don’t know. You know what I think? It has sharp fangs and it is just like a shark but on two legs. Other marks must be claw marks. The claw marks are like the bite marks. Nothing on Earth matches. Is this what Torchwood deals with?”

YOU'RE THE CLOSEST TO HEAVEN THAT I'LL EVER BE AND I DON'T WANT TO GO HOME RIGHT NOW Rose turning to the man sitting next to her with some interest. She had thought that he was either a patient, visiting someone or just a member if the staff. But not even for a moment it had occurred to her that he could have some knowledge of the body she had been investigating. It seemed more knowledge than she herself even had at the moment. “So you’re a Doctor?” She looked at him more closely now before looking down at her folder. Even with the Cybermen and more advanced ways, Rose wasn’t sure this humans knew that much about aliens. There had been encounters, Torchwood had hundreds of them and so did UNIT. But after traveling with the Doctor and visiting the Torchwood base in her universe it probably wasn’t that different.
Saying too much could affect things, but if this man knew something. Has some knowledge about it, it could be helpful for them. More important it could probably stop this killing of human and any other creatures. Rose didn’t know who the aliens were or what their intention where. But she had seen that body and no alien or human was going to go around killing others in such a gruesome way. Her fingers tightened in a fist, she wasn’t just doing this for the Doctor. For the things he had taught her, she was doing it for everyone on the Earth, for the good aliens out there. No one deserved to die like that, no one.
“Walking shark, sound a bit fairytale like.” She wasn’t smiling, she had seen worse things out there. Daleks, Cybermen and things she couldn’t even name. She had come across the Devil himself, a walking shark couldn’t be more fictional than that. But it also sounded like something dangerous and worryingly. She definitely needed to know what this man or Doctor had to say. If there was really such a creature out there or something close to it, well it had to be stopped as soon as possible. Rose didn’t want to think about how much easier this would be with the Doctor around. But it was the painful truth that he wasn’t and she wasn’t going to see him again. Like her mom had said to her during that first day working for Torchwood. Rose Tyler, protector of the Earth.
Maybe it wasn’t in such a big scale, she was no Doctor. But working for Torchwood she could still protect lives, maybe just one today. But maybe millions of lives another day. This Earth just like her own wasn’t coming out of the shell that had hidden it from alien eyes. More aliens were dropping in, some were friendly enough. Some even looked human to the eye. But others like the one doing the killings were far from the nice new neighbors. “Whatever is out there is going to be stopped. But when we get to the base I’m going to have to ask you to drop by. Tell us everything you know, everything you can tell from the bodies. Until he, she or it is captured every life out is in great danger.
As much as Rose didn’t want to admit it, everyone was in danger of getting attacked just like the others had been. Maybe it had plans, knowledge. But it could also be an animal, acting on instinct and killing whoever and whatever stood on its way. Rose couldn’t help but shiver at the thought. With every passing moment her worry grew even more about the alien. He was right, those marks weren't made by anything human, maybe not even from the Earth.
