“Yes I am a Doctor,” Owen replied. He had wondered he going to be in trouble with the government. He had hoped nothing would happen. But he wanted to know more about this alien.
“That’s the way I describe it,” replied Owen. “The inflicted wound on the patient was next to an animal attack to another animal. We had another incident of another one,” he took a quick look at her. “Any chance did your people take the body?” asked Owen. “I was hoping to compare the attack. I found a record on the patient but the file was empty.” He paused he had said too much. “I took samples of the patient’s blood. I was hoping to see if there is a DNA trace in the victim’s body. You may call this fantasy Rose. You work for Torchwood. Is it me supposed to claim it’s a fantasy? I reckon its stands about our size. You know, the body was taken by the police. The records I read did not have the location of the attack. I am lucky I got what I got. I want to know what it is. You think I can help Torchwood on this case?”
Owen was surprise he had said all that. He had more. “Okay,” Owen continued. “I don’t like that alien. There is one but I am sure there could be more. I don’t want to wake up finding someone I care dies from one. I want to know if there is more. I am not going to be able to sleep. So you got to let me help Torchwood. I am a Doctor. I can possibly help you more than many ways.” He paused. He stopped his car at the address. “I am sounding like a kid begging. What do you say? Am I in?”

YOU'RE THE CLOSEST TO HEAVEN THAT I'LL EVER BE AND I DON'T WANT TO GO HOME RIGHT NOW Rose had to smile, a Doctor. It was ironic that she ended with a doctor, not her Doctor. He was out pf reach, another Universe with an unbreakable wall separating them. It felt stupid that she had once worried about the division of hundreds of years. Her on Earth and the Doctor in Satellite 5, years into her future but still happening right then. But now it was time separating them, but the wall that divided different Universes. It took her a bit to find out she was crying, she had cried for the Doctor. She’d made walls to stop them, but in the end the tears always came. She woke up to a wet pillow or during her hours in Torchwood.
She’d told him she loved him, but the Doctor hadn’t been able. Rose sometimes wondered if he wanted to say that or maybe call her foolish. But it was too cruel to think about, so she moved those thoughts to the back of her head. But it still hurt and it made her afraid sometimes. “That’s very good actually. You would make a good Torchwood employee. Maybe you are in another Universe.” Rose grinned, but something cold had ran down her back. There were Torchwoods in her old Universe, people here were different. Back them they probably had other members, different from the ones here.
People making different decisions, leading to different lives. The Doctor in this universe, if he was still around was probably out there. Traveling across the stars, with different companions. It came to her Sarah Jane Smith, Rose now wondered if her own Doctor had moved on. Was traveling around with someone else. She didn’t want him to be alone, but she didn’t want the Doctor to forget her. She was crying again, harder now. She had to move her hands to her face, whipping harshly the tears. This doctor didn’t need to see her pain, he probably had problems of his own.
“Well is not in my power, but I can say that your knowledge would be welcomed. You’ll have my vote, if you can help stop this creature.” He was right, that creature was pout there killing people. It wasn’t right, maybe it was afraid or confused. But it was also killing and that made it dangerous, they needed to at least get it off the street. Then maybe they could work on a way to finding out what it wanted. Rose wasn’t the one to jump in the wagon to kill any alien. But there was also the slight chance that it was just a mindless killer, an animal.
Somehow she hoped that, she didn’t want a scared and confused alien killing people. It was better when it had no conscience. She worked for them, but Rose didn’t approve of some of Torchwood tactics. She admitted to herself that most of the aliens that came in, never came out. Her grip tightened on the folders. Torchwood, it was because of them that she wasn’t with him now. But it was also the only place that she could do half of what she had done with the Doctor. There was a ring, Rose picked the earpiece once more, it was Mickey. There had been another attack.
“Are you sure? How many where hurt?” Rose stopped for a moment, Mickey voice was hurried and loud. Torchwood was moving in, the police was out. “A family? More.” Rose hanged, she reminded silent for a moment. “Well if you are interested in helping Torchwood, there was another attack. Want to go to the scene if the crime? One of the alien was captured.” Torchwood wouldn't be happy, but they needed answers and this doctor has some.

The Torchwood passenger in his car was crying. The tears were flowing down her cheek, he could see them but he had not said anything. He had Katie waiting for at home. Not wanting to get involved with another woman, he had decided to be silent. This Rose would speak up if she wanted too.
“Well is not in my power, but I can say that your knowledge would be welcomed. You’ll have my vote, if you can help stop this creature.”
“Are you serious?” he gave her a quick side look. He wandered how what it would be like? Katie what she would say? He loved Katie, she been giving him plenty chances of not being home from work. Working for Torchwood would bring more pay. No. Katie and Owen had each other and all the essentials the needed. He had to talk to Katie about that. He never dreamed working for Torchwood.
There he saw Rose with more tears. That had bothered him. She seemed to be hugging the folder against her. A member died from this monster. It was a possible explanation why the blonde was crying. Going against the gut feeling, he had decided not to comfort her with touch. He had kept both hands on the wheel.
It was impossible not ignore the concerned tone in Rose’s voice when she was speaking to one of her team mates. The car stopped at a stop sign, he turned to look at her and listen what’s going on.
“Yes,” he replied. The horror raced through Owen. A family had been attacked by the creature. He had the chance of a life time to see it. He nodded his head. “Address to the site?” Changing direction on the road, Owen did a U-turn to go to the direction after Rose gave him the address. Speeding over the speed limit by small amount because he was afraid he be pulled over by the police. He was terrified but he was excited. Never imagine he be doing this. It was like he was a dream. “Katie don’t wake me up,” he mumbled under his breath.

YOU'RE THE CLOSEST TO HEAVEN THAT I'LL EVER BE AND I DON'T WANT TO GO HOME RIGHT NOW "This are strange times, Torchwood is always looking for bright mind to add to their ranks.” She had learned a lot about the Torchwood Institute, working for them brought even more knowledge. They had headquarters all over the Earth. Some of the more active were Tokyo, London and New York. But there were at least hundreds smaller ones out there. Rose wouldn’t be surprised that after the Earth finally moved into space, they would have their own headquarters in other planets. She guessed that it was like that on her own Universe, it was impossible that she and the Doctor had missed them for so long. Then she remembered that the name Torchwood had come up in their travels, she hadn’t paid it much attention and felt silly for it.
If only they had noticed Torchwood faster, then maybe things had gone differently. She could still be traveling with the Doctor right now. But it hadn’t and here she was, working for Torchwood and stopping aliens. She looked out of the window, trying to avoid looking at Owen. Whatever was waiting for them out there wasn’t pretty, they needed to be on their toes. To see the Torchwood employee that supposedly is there to help crying doesn’t give the feeling of safety. She picked another blank page, writing out the address. Even if Torchwood kept the police away, someone always came in, trying to get a quick look at the crime scene. She frankly wanted to get done without before civilians came snooping in.
Taking a quick look at the time she called her mom. She had promised her to visit, see her little brother before going home. But looking at the time she doubted she would have the time. She could still visit during the morning anyway, more chances that he would be awake by then. Her brother and staying up late at this stage did not go well together, but he was easily up early. “Mom is me Rose. Yes I know I promised to be there early, but work. Please, I have to do this. No I’m fine, no one was hurt but I have to go.” She ended the call before her mom could continue with her questions. She hate lying to her, plus Jackie would find out about the deaths later on anyone. Right now she just didn’t want her mom worrying for her safety.
“I most inform you before you drive into that place, that there is no return. You may leave me close by and then go back to your home. Because we are here to save lives, but our own lives may be at risk every minute.” One of the aliens was dead, if it had friends then Rose was afraid to think about what their reactions would be to their friends death. She turned to Owen now, she wouldn’t blame him if he fled. Cowardice wasn’t a weakness, it was just a human reaction to danger. Not everyone would walk into their won deaths for the good of others, sometimes they had others waiting for them. People that needed them.

Owen had a good future waiting for him in the future. He had a doctor’s degree and he was planning to be married soon with Kathy. They had plans to start a family. To rush off to have a high risk dying of chasing aliens was something Owen quickly realized he like his life the way it was. He had so much to lose but he would lose the chance of a life time to deal with aliens.
Biting his lower lip, staring out at the window, he decided he had to say no. “I drive you, drop you off. I can’t. I have a good future for me. Is it possible you can keep me informed what had happened? I could be an insider for at the hospital. I guess it was not meant to be,” he told her driving her to the drop off location. He turned to her. “I pay for the damage on your car and pay for the towing. It was I who did that to your car. Sorry.”
