RIVER SONG - AKA: MELODY POND!
fearless - sassy - intense - loyal - strong

As you may have guessed, my name is Melody Pond, but almost everyone calls me River Song. I was born in the 52nd century, so that makes me just about... Well, I can’t say that I remember how old I am! (It's so hard to keep track!) Don’t be alarmed, though, for I am a Human/Timelord hybrid.
ARE YOU REALLY HAPPY
---------------------------
WITH THE PERSON THAT YOU SEE IN THE MIRROR
River has a very attractive hourglass figure in her current (and supposedly final) form, much to her delight. She has a mess of curly, dirty blonde hair, and hazel-green eyes like her mother. Despite spending most of her adult life in the Stormcage Containment Facility as a prisoner, it is common for River to meet up with the Doctor and his companions in well-put-together outfits - she cleans up rather nicely.
AND SO WE REACH A NEW POINT
---------------------------
IN THE PATH OF LIFE, DEATH AND IMMORTALITY
River seems to have picked up a lot of her personality traits while growing up with Amy and Rory as ‘Mels’. She’s cheeky and feisty like her mother, and responsible and devoted to her loved ones like her father. She has a taste for excitement and adventure, and she’s broken several laws - the worst of which was the supposed murder of the Doctor, which earned her a cell in the Stormcage Containment Facility. Her police record (as ‘Mels’) includes having stolen a bus, as well as a vintage Corvette.
River remains in the Stormcage Containment Facility willingly, as a sort of penance for her crime (even though the Doctor is not dead), although she has the ability to come and go as she pleases (which annoys the guards to no end). She also has an intimate knowledge of the TARDIS, as the TARDIS herself taught River how to pilot her - in fact, because of this, she seems to know more about operating the TARDIS than the Doctor does.
River believes that she has used up all of her remaining regenerations, having sacrificed them all to save the Eleventh Doctor’s life. She also has a penchant for using poison/hallucinogenic lipstick as a weapon, and unlike the Doctor, River has no problem with killing if the situation calls for it.
HOW CAN WE EVER TELL A TALE
---------------------------
IF WE STILL DON'T KNOW ITS BEGINNING AND END
Conceived on the Doctor’s TARDIS while it was in-flight, Melody Pond was later born on the asteroid-base called Demons Run, while her mother was held prisoner there by Madame Kovarian. Kovarian, working with The Silence, kidnapped baby Melody and took her far away... to an orphanage in Florida in the 1960s, where she was raised and presumably brainwashed to kill the Doctor. Kovarian's scientists found that Melody had traces of Time Lord DNA mixed in with her human DNA, and they experimented on Melody to bring these traits to the fore - traits such as: incredible physical strength, the ability to understand and create devices based on complex principles of time and space, and the ability to regenerate.
There have been at least two occasions where she has gone through the regeneration process: Melody was a fair haired little girl who escaped from The Silence in New York City in January of 1970. Sometime thereafter, she regenerated into a light cocoa skinned girl who called herself Mels and positioned herself so that she would get to ‘grow up’ with Amy and Rory (her parents) and become their best friend. In fact, she pointed out that each one was in love with the other, helping to ensure her birth would occur in 2011.
As Mels, she became enamored with The Doctor, based on the wonderful and exciting tales about him from Amy - and just like Amy, she fiercely believed that The Doctor was not at all imaginary, but very real. When Mels 'first' meets the Doctor, she notes that Amy never told her that he was ‘hot’.
Pursued by the police for stealing a vintage, fire engine red Corvette, Mels forced The Doctor, Rory and Amy into the TARDIS at gunpoint and shot the control console (but, only because The Doctor told her that her gun wouldn’t work on the TARDIS because they were in ‘a state of temporal grace’ - but, remember Rule One: The Doctor lies...). This caused the TARDIS to fill with smoke and crash land into the office of Adolf Hitler in Berlin of 1938.
Meanwhile, in 1938, a shape-shifting humanoid robot containing miniaturized humanoids has assumed the form of a Wehrmacht officer and attacked Hitler. Running out of the TARDIS to escape the smoke, The Doctor and his companions inadvertently stopped the robot from killing Hitler, but when Hitler fired a revolver at the robot to defend himself, his aim had been poor, and Hitler accidentally shot Mels instead. Mels revealed that she is in fact Rory and Amy's daughter Melody Pond, and she managed to get the doctor to propose to her - and then, rather than dying, she regenerated into the form now known as River Song.
Having been trained by her captors since infancy to kill the Doctor, she had managed to fatally poison him with lipstick containing an extract from the Judas tree, which would slowly kill him and also prevent his ability to regenerate. She then jumped out of a window and started running, with Amy and Rory in hot pursuit.
After her identity as River Song was revealed to her, River decided that she can’t let the Doctor die as she had originally intended, and so she used what is believed to be the last of her regeneration energy to bring the nearly dead Doctor back to life. The Doctor, Amy and Rory then left her in a hospital with the Sisters of the Infinite Schism with a new, empty TARDIS-styled diary.
Now, in what is believed to be her final incarnation and finally calling herself River Song, Amy and Rory’s daughter has come backwards in time several, several times, and claims to know all of the Doctor’s past selves - although, she isn’t sure which order they go in. River’s timeline is not at all synchronous with the Doctor or her parents.
In the year 5123, River enrolled in a course on archaeology at Luna University, located on Earth's Moon, in an attempt to track down and reunite with The Doctor. The day River earned her doctorate in archeology, Madam Kovarian, agents of the Church and the Silence tracked her down in her office at Luna University, while she was going through her research notes on the Doctor. River had no recollection of who they were, thanks to her brainwashing and conditioning several years earlier. They forced River into a modified astronaut suit and took her to Lake Silencio, Utah, on the 22nd April, 2011, where she was submerged in the lake to lie in wait for the Doctor.
In an alternate timeline where River regained control of herself, she refused to kill the Doctor, and instead managed to drain the suit's weapons system, resulting in the Doctor avoiding his death. This caused a fixed point in Time to rip open, making all of Time collapse together on itself. In this new collapsing timeline, River was part of a group that struggled to fix Time and yet not let it result in The Doctor's death; this group was led by Amy, who also remembered the original timeline’s events. River managed to create a distress beacon, begging the Universe for help with saving the Doctor, and she received a unanimous ‘yes’ from the entire Universe. River was eventually reunited with The Doctor, who tried to grab hold of her, as it would send them back to Lake Silencio and reset Time. River refused, as it would mean the Doctor's death. After the Silence attacked, River revealed her beacon and its results to the Doctor. In response, the Doctor decided to marry her right there and then. He whispered into her ear, ‘look into my eyes, which she did and realised he was in fact the Teselecta, and the real Doctor was inside of its left eye, waving at River from the mechanical man’s pupil. River and the Teselecta-Doctor kissed, which reset Time and sent them all back to Lake Silencio where River ‘killed’ the Teselecta disguised as The Doctor, setting things right again, and also avoiding the untimely death of the Doctor.
They needed the Silence to believe that The Doctor was truly dead, though, so River allowed herself to be arrested and locked up in the Stormcage Containment Facility to serve her sentence for killing the Doctor; meanwhile, The Doctor made frequent visits to River, sometimes taking her out, and other times just staying in, while the Universe at large believed him to be dead...
River had an opportunity to gain The Tenth Doctor’s trust, despite his skepticism, by revealing that she knew his true name. It is presumed that she actually learned this from The Eleventh Doctor before she saved his life as he lay dying in Berlin in 1938.
At one time, River was taken by The Doctor for her birthday to the last Winter Frost Fair on the River Thames in 1814. Stevie Wonder unknowingly performed before being taken back to his original time. Returning to Stormcage from this escapade, River encountered Rory in his Roman uniform, seeming shocked to see him. She refused his request to come aid them at Demons Run, saying that she ‘can't be there until the very end’, and ‘This is the day he finds out who I am.’
A River from later in her own timeline wound up meeting the Doctor, Amy, and Rory at the end of the battle of Demons Run in the 52nd century, where she revealed her identity - first to the Doctor, and then to her parents. Since her timeline is out of synch with theirs, this is not the first time that River has told them who she is.
On receiving an invitation containing coordinates from the Eleventh Doctor, an older River escaped from Stormcage to meet Amy, Rory and him in Utah in the United States of America on April 22, 2011. The Doctor took them on a picnic at Lake Silencio, where a younger version of River appeared to have killed the Doctor and then returned to the bottom of Lake Silencio (where she was likely arrested).
River, Amy, and Rory burned the Doctor's body (which was actually the Teselecta), and then they went to a nearby cafe and bumped into another version of the Eleventh Doctor, who claimed to be about two hundred years younger than the one they had seen die.
River helped this younger Doctor defeat the Silence by using their brainwashing of humanity against them. At her request, the Doctor returned her to Stormcage, where she kissed him goodbye. From his shocked reaction, she realised that from his perspective, it was probably their first kiss, and from her perspective, probably their last.
River has a blue TARDIS-shaped diary that chronicles her adventures with The Doctor, which she frequently uses as a tool to discover where the Doctor and also Amy are in their timeline, in relation to hers. Sometimes she’s a younger River, and sometimes she’s older.
River first met the Tenth Doctor on what is believed to be her final adventure. She had been hired as an archaeologist to investigate a mysterious Library and taken a team of people with her. River also sent a note to the Doctor to meet her there because she believed that he could help. However, there was some sort of timey-wimey mix-up, and the note went farther back in time than River intended, resulting in it reaching a face of the Doctor that did not know her.
River died in the Library, in order to save The Doctor, Donna and the other 4,022 people trapped in The Library's computer from the Vashta Nerada. She pleaded with him to not try and change history, not to change one moment of what had and would yet come for them. River’s spirit lives on now, in a virtual existence within The Library’s archives.

THERE IS ALWAYS A PUPPETEER
---------------------------
CONTROLLING EVEN THE STRANGEST OF THE PUPPETS
Hello! My name is Katie, and I have been around for nearly thirtyyears. Roleplaying's not my only hobby; I'm also super talented at playing the flute and piccolo. Want to get in touch? You can contact me by sending an IM or email to my Yahoo account: rogue_kiss. I’m usually on as invisible, so if it looks like I’m not online, I actually probably am! You may also contact me by PM here at ACROSS TIME AND SPACE, if that’s more convenient. So even if I've only been roleplaying for well over a decade, I think I’m pretty decent! Here's an example, cut and pasted from 2 of my River posts at The Whoniverse RPG:51st Century - Luna University
The woman who called herself River Song sat at a desk and looked over the file that she had begun amassing on the Doctor. She hadn’t found out much yet, but bits and pieces consistently continued to trickle her way, and one day... One day, River Song would have enough data to find him again, whenever and wherever he happens to be.
As River sat in her dorm room at Luna University studying her data on the Doctor, a menacing red light began to blink on and off on her recently acquired Vortex Manipulator. She was still learning how to properly use the blasted thing, and that blinky red light was new to her - River wasn’t sure what it was supposed to signify, but she went with her gut and pressed a button beside the blinking light.
A blueish-green holographic projection of the Doctor appeared in front of her, and River nearly burst into manic applause.
“There you are, Sweetie... I’ve found you,” River crooned saucily in a sing-song voice, as if the man himself could actually hear her, and her lips curled up into a very satisfied grin.
However, she couldn’t hear a darn thing The Doctor was saying, though he was gesturing wildly with his hands and flapping his lips frantically - something appeared to be wrong. River fiddled with some more buttons on the Vortex Manipulator, and she was soon rewarded with the sound portion of the message.
The Doctor hurriedly explained that he was in danger and was in desperate need of assistance. He explained that he sent this SOS out across multiple frequencies in hopes that it would reach someone who could handle the kinds of messes he tended to wind up entangled in. A date and coordinates were provided, and then the hologram fizzled into nothingness.
Without taking the time to properly plan for all possible contingencies, or to consider any possible repercussions, River Song grabbed her TARDIS diary, strapped the Vortex Manipulator on her wrist, set the coordinates and then slapped the ‘go’ button like a kid in a candy store, vanishing in a crackling of whiteish-blue energy.
1989 - London
River reappeared in the late 20th Century - 1989, to be specific - but The Doctor was nowhere to be seen.
“Oh, my Love... Where are you?” River murmured to the wind.
Upon closer inspection, River found that she had arrived at the National Physics Lab, just outside of London. Utilizing her Vortex Manipulator, River scanned the area for life signs, detecting the on-duty guards - and also one lone individual some distance off in the darkness. All life signs detected were Human... No Time Lord yet.
So... Why here? What was so special about this lab?
River again turned to her Vortex Manipulator, this time using it like one would to access the Internet on their mobile device. She Googled the lab to try to discern just what it was that this physics lab specialized in...
... and she found that the NPL was researching the creation of quantum fluctuation. In simpler terms, they were studying minute violations of the Law of Conservation of Energy. This law states that energy can neither be created, nor destroyed... Some theorized that the Universe had been created by quantum fluctuation, and others believed that if they could harness and control quantum fluctuation that they could travel through time (although, even Stephen Hawking admitted that it would only be at a microscopic level).
What seemed more likely to the woman with so much foreknowledge was that this lab may accidentally create Huon particles, or a black hole, or some such disaster - but, was that why the Doctor said he needed help? To shut down this lab? Or... Was he a prisoner somewhere within the lab's well guarded walls?
River closed the flap on her Vortex Manipulator, and drew her blaster. She began to do a perimeter sweep outside the gates of the NPL, deciding to scope out what she could before charging on in head-first.
Soon, River caught sight of the other 'blip' that her Vortex Manipulator had shown her earlier - the other Human outside the lab. She was dressed in camo and mostly hidden in the tall grasses that surrounded the lab.
River wasn't about to take any chances, so she held her blaster out at the unknown woman and cleared her throat, softly but loudly enough for the nearby Sarah Jane to hear.
"Who are you? What are you doing out here?" River asked in a hushed voice. She would holster the blaster if the woman proved to not be a threat.
