It is not the strongest of the species that survives.
Nor the most intelligent that survives.
It is the one that is the most adaptable to change.
Eighteen months have passed since the events on Alcatraz Island. With the last viable transfusion of the cure administered in clinics throughout the nation and the source destroyed in the destruction of Worthington Labs, life for mutantkind has entered into an era of uneasy peace. The X-Men were able to bury their fallen sister and in due time, welcome both new friends and old to the Institute with open hands and hearts. The increase of power manifestations blossoming within America’s youth brought an influx of students and with them, a fuller faculty under the watchful eyes of headmistress Ororo Munroe. With Wolverine off on a trail to self-discovery, the X-Men fell under the capable tutelage of Scott Summers – who returned to the Institute following his awakening from a coma the Phoenix’s manifestation had brought upon him. Former villainess now reformed, Emma Frost donned the teaching mantle and granted the X-Men the use of Cerebro once again with a noble telepath at the helm. Despite his premature martyrdom, the effort towards Charles Xavier’s vision of mutant acceptance continued posthumously.
The mind is its own place, and in itself
Can make a heaven of hell,
And a hell of heaven.
Faced with crimes terrorist in nature and forlorn in the absence of the tyrant whose spoken word gathered an army in his name, the Brotherhood of Mutants disbanded succeeding the failed attempt of their Alcatraz Island crusade. Receding back towards the ebony crooks in which they emerged from, the stain of the most sinister kind was eliminated once more, allowing for tepid tempers to curdle in the impending seclusion. When whispers of the cure’s inability to restrain mother nature’s evolutionary intentions reached public ear after nearly eighteen months, sentiments bubbled and brewed with the imminent Armageddon – while the tandem factions braced for battle. Armed with an unquenchable thirst for vengeance at the hands that dealt her the fate of a common mule, the Prussian-blue queen commenced war with the reformation of the Brotherhood. Gathering those most capable of her heinous intentions from the previous generation, Mystique ventures to terminate homo sapiens – and all who threaten her trek to domination – permanently.
Innocence, once lost, can never be regained.
Darkness, once gazed upon, can never be lost.
Unpredictable and ominous, the future remains a grave mystery for mutantkind. While many would valiantly give their lives to feel some sense of positivity about what is to come, there are others who linger in the vestiges conspiring to the contrary. Would you be prepared to defend yourself in what is to come?
